Some More New Art...

Calor/Amor by Roseann Cazares

It seems like an ridiculously long time since I posted any new art on my blog.  During the last year, it was very busy, but that does not mean I did not make time to make some new art like I said I would in 2016.  Since I am also on Instagram, I try to post new art and photos as much as I can.  These two pages are from the journal I am currently working in.  A few weeks ago, I got an opportunity to take an art class called "An Artist's Study", taught by my wonderful friend and fellow artist, Kelly Kilmer.  For those who know me well, it's no surprise I chose Frida Kahlo as the artist I wanted to "study" further.  Afterall, Frida is my favorite artist.  For more information about Kelly's classes, including an "Artist's Study", follow the link here, Kelly Kilmer.

Some New Art...

What is going on here?!  Some new art?!  Actually, yes.  It's time.  More than time.  It's very hard to explain as to just how much my job and everything that goes with it take away so much of my time.  Because my time is SO limited, I don't have very much time to make new art and post as often as I should, so I have to wait for whatever break I can squeeze some time to do just that.  I am on my winter break and this break is going to be all about re-charging and spending some quality time with my art supplies and me.  I finished these four pages last night.  My dear friend and fellow artist, Kelly Kilmer, kellykilmer.blogspot.com, put together a killer collage bag of images for me.  This past Tuesday, I spent two hours cutting down all of the images, then sorting and mixing them with my own collection of images.  And doing so sparked some new ideas!  Here's to making more art during this break!  Here's to a wonderful holiday season! Christmas is almost here and I can hardly wait!

Here's To Making More Art!

Happy 2015!  I just can't believe it's been more than a year since I last blogged on "An Artist's Life"!  It was a ridiculously busy 2014 that left me with very little time to make some new art or anything else.  Running a school and having a 2nd blog to update regularly have been where much of my attention is focused.  I have been on winter break for the last 3 weeks.  At the start of my vacation, I made a small list of the things I wanted to accomplish before I went back to work.  On the list and towards the top of it, was making some new art and taking "arty" photos.  And so now that the minutes and hours are ticking away before the second semester of this school year begins,  here is some of the art I made to prepare for my favorite "holiday" of the year, Valentine's Day.  I promise it won't take me another year to post again!  PROMISE!  xoxo

It's The Little Things...

Today ends week 2 of vacation. The time has really flown!  Although I am on vacation, I have used some of my time to catch-up on work so that when I go back to school in a week, I am not completely swamped with deadlines!  Yesterday morning, I was washing dishes when I caught a glimpse of these beauties from the corner of my eye.  On Thursday night, I put these irises into a vase above the sink and they seemed to have bloomed magically overnight.  Their sheer beauty stopped me in my tracks!  I stopped washing and went over to my purse and grabbed my camera before the moment got away from me and snapped a few shots.  Simple moments like these are the ones that mean the most to me.  I hope your weekend is a good one no matter how you are spending it.  xoxo

Happy 2014 and How NOT To Sweat The Little Things...

Good afternoon, 2014! There are SO many things to be grateful for as I look forward to the new year, as well as I look back at 2013.  Today has been another incredible day of what S. California is known for:  its beautiful and warm weather.  With today being in the low 80's again, it is no surprise why SO many flock to our state each year.   I took this photo a couple of days ago - something about how all of the flowers, berries, and leaves against the kitchen window and the way the light came through got my attention.  With the exception of the pink peonies, all of the rest came from my garden.  Please excuse the water spots on the window, but if you get caught up on what's not perfect, you'll miss out on the simple pleasures and beauties that are all around us.  Happy 2014 and may it be a glorious year for you.

How I Have Spent Some of My Vacation...

I have been off for almost a week now for Thanksgiving break.  The time has flown!  Since the new school year started, I have been even busier than normal.  This year, I am teaching a class during the school day.  I am teaching "Creative Writing" during our third period.  I am loving every minute of it too!  Last month, I taught my students how to create mail art.  The students also added a short message to the mail art.  Once everyone completed their postcards, I walked them into the post office and had each piece (24 in total!) hand-cancelled and off to their new homes they went.  I must confess several of my students had a hard time giving up their mail art.  So to lesson the anxiety, my dear secretary and friend, Valarie (I KNOW YOU ARE READING THIS!), made copies of all of the art work and suspended each piece to the ceiling, in our main office.  This looks SUPER cool and very inviting when you visit.  During my break, I created 10 new postcards/ mail art.  The top left corner card was the piece I used as my sample for teaching the lesson to my students.   I have a lot of art I have not posted, including 2 journals I have completed in the last few months.  Being principal doesn't give me a lot of extra time to do very much outside of the job.  But creating, even in spurts, is good for my soul, like my dear red-headed friend, Kelly, says.  Speaking of Kelly Kilmer, I will be meeting her and a few other very interesting and special women, in the next few hours.  It's our journaling group and we will be hanging out at Farmer's Market and journaling.
